Educational Preschool Lead Teacher

Job Description

 

Position:          Educational Preschool Lead Teacher

 

Supervisors:   Youth, Family Director, Supervised Play/Preschool Class Coordinator

 

Prerequisites:

 

·        Must have 1-3 years experience working with children ages 2-5

·        Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR certifications within the first 60 days of employment

·        Must have or obtain YMCA Child Abuse Prevention within the first 30 days of employment

·        Must be physically able to work with young children and perform all duties in the day to day activities

 

General Responsibilities:

The Educational Preschool Lead Teacher will be responsible for the daily operation of the preschool program.  This will include the implementation of all daily activities.  The teacher is responsible for ensuring children’s cognitive development and holds primary responsibility for the education, health, welfare and safety of the children in the program.

  1. Works Productively: Demonstrates responsible actions; consistently performs duties in a safe and conscientious manner within the agreed upon timeframe; follows standards, policies, and procedures; is reliable and consistently punctual; actively participates in staff meetings, required trainings, and other work related activities; uses good judgment; uses YMCA resources appropriately and efficiently.

Specific Responsibilities:

           

  • Read, know, follow and enforce emergency procedures, YMCA policies, rules, and health codes applicable to the facility.

  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings, in-service trainings and other YMCA certification training.

  • Maintain professional appearance and attitude.

  • Supervise and implement the program in accordance with the YMCA goals and philosophies.

  • Implement preschool curriculum according to the school districts Kindergarten requirements.

  • Be responsible for the safety of the children in the program at all times.

  • Supervise Teacher’s Aides and volunteers in the classroom.

  • Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with the parents throughout the year.

  • Be responsible for the sign in and out procedures and documentation of the classroom.

  • Be responsible for the set up/clean up of the classroom.

  • Be responsible for reporting any relevant information about the children or staff to the Preschool Coordinator.

  • Substitute in other Educational Preschool classes when available.

  • Assume other duties as requested by the Preschool Coordinator.

 

Care and Supervision:

Call the child by name; interact frequently at their eye level.  Treat the child with dignity and respect.  Guide and discipline in a positive manner.  Greet parents as they drop/pick up children on program.  Share with them details of child’s time in the program.  Demonstrate and model qualities of YMCA Character Development, Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
