Cheerleading Instructor

 

Supervisor:     Assistant Sports Director

 

Prerequisites:

·        16 years of age or older

·        2 years of cheerleading or related experience working with children

·        YMCA child abuse prevention training with first 60 days of employment

General Responsibilities:

 

Adaptability to perform repetitive and/or short work, influence people in their attitudes, opinions and judgments. Adaptability to perform a variety of functions on the job and to work with precise limits, tolerances and standards. Ability to work with people and make judgments and decisions clearly. Cheerleading Instructors need to have the adaptability to direct control and/or plan activities of others.

·        Report to work 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift and punch in.

·        Any questions or problems that arise should be reported directly to your supervisor.

·        Be attentive to members and their needs.

·        Implement character development lesson plans into curriculum as planned by staff

·        Do not socialize with other personnel since your job is to interact with the members.

·        Keep gymnasium clear and free of debris and personal items that may be on the floor, etc.

·        Follow as staff all rules and guidelines for members in the activity areas.  Set the example.

·        Perform all other duties as assigned by professional staff.

·        These procedures are subject to changes as the department continues to evaluate the service to its members

Skill Development and Progression:

·        Read, know, follow and enforce emergency procedures, YMCA policies, rules, and health codes applicable to the facility.

·        Maintain professional appearance and attitude.

·        Be responsible for all scheduled hours and if necessary, follow the appropriate substitution procedures.  Failure to do so could result in disciplinary action.

·        Have equipment for each class set up before class time begins and put away after class ends.

Staff Training:

1.      Trained in American Red Cross Community First Aid & CPR or within first 60 days of employment.

2.      Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service training and other YMCA certification training.  Keeping all personal certifications and skills current.  Also keeping up to date on health related classes/lectures to provide the most current information to our members.

Program Development:

1.      Maintain schedule of classes.  Classes should not be started late and they should end on time.

2.      Keep accurate record keeping as mandated by the Associate Executive Director.

3.      Implement Character Development in all phases of work.

Effect on End Results:

Provide a safe and positive experience for all members in cheerleading classes.  Give the member the experience that makes them want to come back tomorrow. Frequent interaction with members, class participants and parents/guardians of class participants. All of the staff time is spent directly with class participants in an instructional environment.
