Health &
Wellness Director
Supervisor: Executive Director
Prerequisites:
The
Director must bring to this position appropriate education and
experience, which includes a bachelor’s degree in a related field as
well as 2 years experience with group exercise classes. Nationally
recognized certifications such as A.C.E., A.F.A. or YMCA of the USA
are preferred.
General Responsibilities:
The Health and Wellness Director administers programs associated
with promoting healthy lifestyles for all ages. The major thrust of
this department will be to deliver upon Activate America Initiatives
including intensifying efforts to work with the health seeker
population. It is important that this department remains current and
impacts the physical, mental and spiritual health of the individual
and the family.

Specific Responsibilities:
Program Development and Management:
1.
Administer a comprehensive member wellness program to
compliment fitness and aerobic offerings for all ages. This includes
Activate America initiatives, fitness classes, fitness testing,
personal fitness program and fitness orientations that are current
with trends and community/member needs.
2.
Supervision, staffing and scheduling of the fitness center.
Responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of all assigned
areas.
3.
Coordinate fitness instructor schedules and leading group
exercise classes as needed.
4.
Work with member services to ensure commitment to reaching
health seekers.
5.
Administer the Silver Sneakers program at each branch.
6.
Serve as YMCA representative in the community and to
corporate partners in the areas of health and wellness.
7.
Development of new programs.
8.
Participate in Association fundraising (Strong Kids)
campaigns
Staff Recruitment, Development and Supervision:
1.
Hire and schedule all department staff, ensuring exemplary
coverage of areas at all times of participation in the fitness
center.
2.
Evaluation of staff at designated times.
3.
Ensure proper trainings are conducted for staff to provide
them with the tools to be the best staff person they can be.
Trainings include First Aid/CPR.
4.
Directly supervise aerobic and fitness instructors.
5.
Attend staff meetings and other YMCA related meetings and
special functions.
6. The Executive Director may add other duties to this job
as deemed necessary.
Effect on End Results:
This
position has a primary impact on the branch’s overall effectiveness
by the delivery of health and wellness programs as well as a direct
impact on member retention. This will be measured through:
1.
Development of fitness programs to serve and educate members
and the community.
2.
Retention of staff and members.
3.
Promotion of Activate America Initiatives.
4.
All members feeling welcome to the YMCA.
5.
Our ability to help health seekers sustain positive lifestyle
health changes.
