Supervisor: Safe ‘n Sound Program Directors
Prerequisites:
·
Must be at least 18 years old and
currently enrolled in an accredited university, or have
equivalent childcare experience.
·
Must have experience working in a camp
setting, supervising staff, strong leadership and
communication skills.
·
Must be certified in CPR and First Aid by
the start of camp.
·
Must attend Child Abuse Prevention
Training and YMCA University by the start of camp.

General Responsibilities:
The camp director will be under the direction of the
program director. Responsibilities will include
training and supervising assistant camp director,
team leaders, and counselors. The camp director
will ensure the safety of all staff and camp
participants while at camp and be the primary
contact for parents at camp.

General Responsibilities
Skill Development and Progression
Camp director is responsible for working with
program director and being knowledgeable and
responsible for the given budget. This includes the
prompt and accurate reporting of needed supplies
(e.g. cookouts). Also responsible for motivating and
building staff moral.
Staff Training:
1.
All staff must attend mandatory training
prior to camp to include but not limited to Child
Abuse Prevention, Risk Management with Praesidium/
Redwoods, 1st Aid and CPR certification
and YMCA University.
2.
Assisting the program director with
scheduling weekly staff meetings to insure there is
a forum for feedback to and from staff.
Supervision:
1.
Primary contact for all parent communication.
2.
Refer any problems, complaints or questions
that cannot be handled by the camp director to
program director.
3.
Responsible for the approval of any changes
to daily lesson plans that are made by camp staff.
4.
Oversee proper sign in and sign out of
campers on daily basis. Insure an orderly and safe
procedure and maintain all sign in and sign out logs
for entire camp season to be turned in to program
director weekly.
Program Development:
1.
Make any recommendations regarding program
improvements or changes to program director.
2.
Notify and gain approval from the program
director for any changes in program before any
campers are notified.
3.
Implement a consistent participant discipline
policy and insure all staff follow it.
General Responsibilities:
1.
Make sure all camp staff are well informed
throughout the camp day.
2.
Be responsible for morning or afternoon
extended care facilitation. During this time, they
must communicate with all parents regarding any
issues, questions, etc.
3.
Must make all necessary calls to parents and
attend any parent conferences that take place for a
camper in their camp.
4.
Camp director is responsible for weekly
organization of the campsite. This duty includes
inspection of staff areas (break room), cabinets,
and supply storage areas.
5.
Be responsible for collecting weekly
attendance sheets from each team leader/counselors
in your group once a week and pass all sheets on to
the program director.
6.
Coordinate weekly scheduling.
7.
Distribute participant and staff evaluation
forms.
8.
Responsible for submitting all reports and
paperwork such as incident reports, ouch reports,
behavior reports, and staff timesheets in a prompt
and timely manner.
9.
Check site location to insure all equipment
is functioning properly at beginning and end of
session. Perform weekly check of site location to
insure safety in rest rooms, camp areas, etc. Notify
program director of any safety concerns immediately.
Insure no one uses damaged equipment until repairs
are made or concerns have been addressed.
10.
Camp director is responsible for maintaining
and updating accurate emergency information at
location.
11.
Camp director is responsible for on-site set
up, clean up and day to day operation of the camp.
This includes retaining lost and found items and
making every effort to return items left behind. At
end of summer, disposing of lost and found items
after making a reasonable effort to locate owners.
12.
Develop an age appropriate curriculum for the
camp you will be directing.
13.
Provide safe transport to and from field
trips, insure bus safety standards and proper camper
to counselor ratios are observed.
14.
Camp director will be involved in all
activities to insure leadership by example.
15.
Maintain a positive working relationship
between the camp staff and program office.
Effect on End Results:
The camp director is charged with:

Providing a safe, enjoyable and
well-rounded camping experience for participants and
staff.
·
A consistent, sound and mature
communication to counselors and supervisors.
