Safari Club Camp Counselor

 

 

Supervisor:     Safari Club Assistant Director, Youth and Family Director

 

Prerequisites:

 

This position requires that you have graduated high school and completed one year of college. Must have experience working with children and be certified in CPR and First Aid. Child related majors are preferred but not required.

 

 

General Responsibilities:

 

Counselors will direct activities for a group of campers. They will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all Safari Club campers as well as keeping accurate records regarding the care of the campers. Counselors will need to attend required training and staff meetings in addition to their regularly scheduled hours.

Specific Responsibilities:

 

            Areas of responsibility include the following headings:

 

·        Direct Activities of Camper Group

·        Record Keeping

·        Safety

·        General Procedures

·        Staff Training

 

 

Direct Activities of Camper Group:

 

1.      To organize and lead activities during daily group time and bus trip time.

2.      To engage the campers in fun and interactive experiences while at field trip locations.

3.      To ensure that the area is left in the same, if not better condition, at the conclusion of each day.

4.      To develop activities for weekly lesson plans to be turned in to the Assistant Director.

5.      To return any equipment or unused supplies to its proper location.

 

Record Keeping:

 

1.      To submit all required reports to the assistant director or teen and family director such as Accident Reports, Incident Reports, lesson plans and attendance sheets.

2.      To keep accurate attendance records.

 

Safety:

 

1.      To check all equipment to ensure that it is in safe condition at the beginning and conclusion of each day.

2.      To report any damage to buildings, equipment, parks or unsafe conditions to the assistant director or teen and family director.

3.      To stay in direct supervision of all participating children from the time the children arrive to when the children are picked up by the proper individual.

4.      To interact constantly with the campers and not to socialize with other personnel.

 

General Procedures:

 

1.      To work scheduled hours that are assigned by the assistant director which are not to exceed 40 hours a week without written approval from the teen and family director.

2.      To work until the last day of camp, unless arrangements are made with the camp director prior to the start of camp.

3.      To abide by the policies and procedures as described in the employee emergency manual.

4.      To maintain good public relations with people in the community, on and off duty, and always keep a neat and clean appearance.

5.      To refer any problems or concerns, which the counselor is not able to handle to the assistant director or teen and family director.

6.      To perform any other duties as requested by the assistant director or teen and family director.

 

Staff Training:

 

1.      To attend a mandatory two-week training period prior to camp, which includes CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention and camp specific training.

2.      To attend staff meetings and make use of any printed materials to increase their ability to perform duties.

 

Effect on End Results:

 

To provide the campers with an experience that is fun, safe and make them want to return to camp the following year.
