Aerobics Instructor

Supervisor:     Fitness Director

Prerequisites:

·        High School diploma (or GED equivalent) required.

·        College Degree or be working towards a B.S. or B.A. in a health related field preferred

·        Experience and knowledge in fitness and sports programming

General Responsibilities:

Adaptability to perform repetitive and/or short workout routines, influence people in their attitudes, opinions and judgments. Perform a variety of functions on the job and to work with precise limits, tolerances and standards. Ability to work with people and make judgments and decisions clearly in assessing overall health related issues. Aerobics Instructors need to have the adaptability to direct, control and/or plan activities of others. Keep aerobics studio clear and free of debris and personal items that may be on the floor, etc.

Skill Development and Progression:

1.      Work toward a nationally recognized certification such as YMCA of the USA, AFAA, ACSM, or ACE.

2.      Work towards obtaining certifications in American Red Cross Community First Aid & CPR.

Staff Training:

1.      Keeping all personal certifications and skills current.  Also keeping up to date on health related classes/lectures to provide the most current information to our members.

Program Development:

1.      Spear-head new incentive programs for  members

General Procedures:

·        Report to work 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift and punch in.

·        Any questions or problems that arise should be reported directly to your supervisor.

·        Be attentive to members and their needs.

·        Maintain schedule of classes.  Classes should not be started late and they should end on time.

·        Follow as staff all rules and guidelines for members in the activity areas.  Set the example.

·        Read, know, follow and enforce emergency procedures, YMCA policies, rules, and health codes applicable to the facility.

·        Perform assigned maintenance duties to keep all pieces of equipment clean and working.

·        Perform light maintenance as per the Physical Director and/or the Maintenance Director.

·        Informing the Physical Director when supplies are running low so more can be reordered.

·        Be responsible for all scheduled hours and if necessary, follow the appropriate substitution procedures.

·        Keep accurate record keeping as mandated by the Physical Director.

·        Implement Character Development in all phases of work.

Effect on End Results:

Provide a safe and positive experience for all members in member fitness and specialty aerobics classes.  Give the member the experience that makes them want to come back tomorrow. Frequent interaction with members.  Most of the staff time is spent directly with the members asking if they need any assistance or guidance. Initiate the repair when equipment is down. Also inform the Program Director, the Aerobics/Fitness Team Leader and the Maintenance Director.
