Personal Trainer

The Kroehler Family YMCA in looking for certified personal trainers to work primarily with our male members.  Hours are flexible, but must be available 5-8am and/or 5-8pm.

 Prerequisites:

  • High School diploma (or GED equivalent) required.
  • Experience and knowledge in fitness and/or sports programming.
  • NCAA Accredited Personal Training certification from:  ASCM, NASM, ACE, NCSF, NSCA, or NFPT.

 Must fulfill requirements for Fitness Program Training Position within 90 days of hire:

  • CPR/First Aid

  • Y University (new employee orientation)

  • MCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles

 Overview:

The Personal Trainer prescribes, develops, and assists members with personalized fitness programs. The thrust of this department will include fitness activities as well as health education, and health/fitness awareness and assessment for a healthy lifestyle. It is important that this department remains current and address the daily issues directly and indirectly impacting the physical, mental and spiritual health of the individual and family.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness programs that meet the unique needs and wants of each member.  Contact members on a regular basis to follow-up on progression of their fitness program.
  • Plan and instruct individuals and/or small groups with a personalized approach following YMCA standards and guidelines.
  • Clean up any equipment used for training sessions.
  • Keep accurate records of members' health history, assessments and progress.
  • Discuss and promote all other YMCA programs to motivate members to commit to long term participation in the YMCA.
  • Interact with members in the fitness center on a regular basis, to increase interest and participation in the personal training program.
  • Keep up to date on health related classes/lectures to provide the most current information to members.

 General Responsibilities:

  • Implement Character Development in all phases of work.
  • Build relationships with members and community participants to aquire deeper connection and commitment to the YMCA following the Member Involvement model.
  • Read, know, follow and enforce emergency procedures, YMCA policies, rules, and health codes.
  • Responsible to turn in bi-monthly time sheets on time in order to be paid on time.  Time sheets must include names of members trained as well as number of sessions paid for.
  • Be responsible for all scheduled training sessions and reschedule accordingly with individual members.
  • Keep all personal certifications and skills current.
  • Participate in planning and/or running Healthy Kids Day in the spring.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Promotes Strong Kids Campaign to members and community participants.
  • Attend annual Staff Rally in the fall.

5.   Uses Effective Personal Behaviors/Communicates Effectively:  treats everyone with courtesy, respect and consideration; displays integrity; listens actively and genuinely; communicates in a clear and pleasant manner; embraces differences among people; demonstrates an active willingness to learn and grow; accepts constructive criticism; works cooperatively as a team leader.
