Pilates Instructor

Prerequisites:

  • High School diploma (or GED equivalent) required

  • Experience and knowledge in Pilates with nationally recognized certification

 

Must fullfill requirments for Fitness Program Training Position within 90 days of hire:

  • CPR/First Aid

  • Y University (new employee orientation)

  • YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles

Overview:

Under the direction of the Fitness Coordinator, the Pilates Instructor is responsible for conducting pilates classes. The thrust of the department will include fitness activities as well as health education, initial health/fitness awareness for membership, family and youth involvement in a healthy lifestyle and support for class participants.  It is important to remain current and address the daily issues directly and indirectly impacting the physical, mental and spiritual health of the individual and family.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Give direct leadership and instruction to pilates classes; this is not your workout but for our members

  • Provide safe and effective workouts, for the general population and for health seekers

  • Interact with members before/after each class. Obtain member input for ideas for future classes.

  • Encourage member participation in other group fitness classes

  • Keep studio clean, assuring all equipment is put away in the proper place at the conclusion of each class

  • Report any equipment or maintenance issues to the Fitness Coordinator

  • Make announcements to classes about fitness classes, other YMCA programs and YMCA core values

  • Keep all personal certifications and skills current.

  • Establish a curriculum of classes that enhance the total well being of the individual and family.

  • Obtain printed roster before each class and assure that roll is taken with a total participation count

General Responsibilities:

  • Implement Character Development in all phases of work.

  • Build relationships with members and community participants to acquire deeper connection and commitment to the YMCA following the Member Involvement model.

  • Read, know, follow and enforce emergency procedures, YMCA policies, rules, and health codes.

  • Use of time clock is required to be paid.  Instructors may clock in no more than 15 minutes before the beginning of a scheduled class and no more than 15 minutes after the scheduled class end time.

  • Keep all personal certifications and skills current.

  • Participate in planning and/or running Healthy Kids Day in the spring

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings.

  • Attend annual Staff Rally in the fall

Group Exercise class offerings will be consistent and reliable as well as provide a safe and positive environment. They will offer variety to meet all members’ needs in health & wellness.  The member will be enthused and want to return again tomorrow.
