Prerequisites:

Attend Heritage YMCA Group New employee Orientation

Attend Aquatic Staff Orientation

Standard Infant, Child, and Adult CPR and First Aid within 90 days of employment

Child Abuse Prevention training within 90 days of employment

Be willing to work toward YMCA applicable certifications within the YMCA Swim Program

General Responsibilities:

Follow guidelines according to the YMCA Swim Lesson Program to provide safe and progressively challenging program

Aid in developing people through Character Development to their fullest potential.

Provide excellent customer service so that "the person I serve today will want to come back tomorrow".
Specific Responsibilities:
Areas of responsibility include the following headings:
Skill Development and Progression:
-
Ability to demonstrate skills at each level.
Staff Training:
-
Keep CPR and First Aid skills current.
-
Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
-
Work toward applicable YMCA Instructor certifications.
-
Complete daily and weekly training activities.
Supervision:
-
Supervise students in the class to provide a safe environment.
-
Act as a second responder to administer CPR and First Aid.
Program Development:
-
Incorporate Character Development into each lesson plan.
-
Complete all necessary paperwork and record keeping to include, but not limited to the following: attendance, evaluation forms, report cards, weekly trainings, accident/incident reports and sub sheets.
-
Prepare your own lesson plan for each class and get all necessary equipment set up before class time begins. Put away all equipment after class.
-
Be considerate of other classes being conducted. Remain in your assigned area and maintain a normal level of noise.

Be attentive to your class and each child's needs. Do not socialize with other staff members.
-
An instructor is more productive in the water. Be in the water 80% of class time.

Work with the Aquatic Director to develop and implement any new programs.
General Responsibilities:

Maintain a professional appearance according to the current personnel policy.
-
Take responsibility for schedules hours and if necessary, follow appropriate substitution procedures.

Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
-
Report to work 15 minutes prior to your scheduled class.
-
Know, follow, and enforce emergency procedures. Follow the guidelines of the YMCA, health codes, and rules that are applicable to the aquatic department.
Effect on End Results:

Both child and parent will enjoy the benefits of the Heritage YMCA Group's swim lessons. Parents will know that the child is safe and secure in the program, and learning to their fullest capacity.

Children will be introduced to swimming skills and strokes outlines by the YMCA lesson guidelines and progress accordingly.

Children will learn positive character development traits including sharing, respecting other children, and playing fair.

Children and parents will have a positive experience.

Instructors will have the tools and training necessary to have an enjoyable class.
