Water Exercise Instructor

Supervisor:     Aquatic Director

 

Prerequisites:

  • CPR within 6 weeks of employment

  • Basic First Aid within 6 weeks of employment

  • Begin work towards YMCA certification such as PAL and Water Aerobic Instructor

  • 16 yeast of age and show emotional maturity

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe and challenging classes. 

  • Follow all guidelines according to the YMCA National Water Exercise Program. 

  • Aid in developing people to their fullest potential and use Character Development in weekly lessons. 

  • Provide excellent customer service “so that the person I serve today will want to come back tomorrow.”

4.      Works Productively:  Demonstrates responsible actions; consistently performs duties in a safe and conscientious manner within the agreed up on timeframe; follows standards, policies, and procedures; is reliable and consistently punctual; actively participates in staff meetings, required trainings, and other work related activities; uses good judgment; uses YMCA resources appropriately and efficiently.

Specific Responsibilities:

            Areas of responsibility include the following headings:

·        Skill Development and Progression

·        Staff Training

·        Supervision

·        Program Development

·        General Responsibilities

 

Skill Development and Progression:

1.      Incorporate Character Development into each class.

2.      Keep CPR, First Aid, and Water Exercise Instructor skills and certifications current

3.      Know, follow, and enforce emergency procedures.  Follow the guidelines of the YMCA, health codes, and rules that are applicable to the aquatic department.

 

Staff Training:

1.      Attend staff meetings and workshops as scheduled.

2.      Work towards the YMCA Water Aerobic Instructor certification.

 

Supervision:

1.      If a participant in you class needs First Aid, you should have the lifeguard watch your class while you attend to the situation quickly. If the lifeguard is more qualified to perform the necessary First Aid, you would follow emergency procedures including pressing the emergency button or notifying the customer service center.

2.      Supervise participants in the class and watch for any behaviors that may compromise the safety of other participants in the program. 

 

Program Development:

1.  Gather any teaching materials you will need.

3.      Do any lesson plans or additional preparations (evaluations) on your own.  Aquatic Director is available to provide assistance.

4.      Be considerate of other classes being conducted at the same time in the pool.  Remain in your class area and maintain a normal level of noise.  Pool division is based on the needs of the particular classes and the number of participants.

5.      Gather any teaching materials you will need.

8.      Be attentive to your class and their needs.  Do NOT socialize with other personnel!

9.      GET WET!!  Evaluate, demonstrate and correct moves from the water.

10.  Neatly return the teaching materials used to their appropriate storage area.

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Report 15 minutes prior to scheduled class and clock in.

  2. Any questions or problems that rise should be reported directly to the Aquatic Director.

  3. Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
