IT’S ALL ABOUT
BUILDING A COMMUNITY
The YMCA must be more than a place
to work out. The Y should not just be the location where you take
swim lessons or play basketball. Long ago, successful YMCAs
figured out that our job is all about changing lives for the
better in Spirit, Mind and Body. The Y must be a welcoming place
that embraces all who are interested and serves all kids and
families, even if they are not able to afford the cost of
participation.
This fall we are focusing all of
our energies on exemplary customer service. Our staff is working
everyday to learn the names of our members. We are constantly
working to connect groups of members around common interests. It
is all about building a sense of community. I often think back
about the TV show “Cheers”. Cheers was a place where “everyone
knew your name”, a group of friends who became like a family.
As a Y member you should expect
that we will greet you in a way that makes you feel welcome and in
a manner that makes you feel special. Every one of our Y branches
has a suggestion box. Please let us know how we are doing. Your
comments and thoughts and suggestions are welcomed and will help
us become better as a Y. We want you to feel at home at your
YMCA. It is just that important to us that you want to return
again and again and again.
Several quick reminders. Our new
YMCA Children’s Early Learning Campus (CELC) is now open at our
Fry YMCA on 95th Street. This new center provides all
day care for children from six weeks through kindergarten. This
8,000 square foot facility is bright and alive and staffed by an
exceptionally ably staff of well trained professionals. To
arrange a tour of the new Campus featuring values based curriculum
please call the YMCA at 630-420-6600.
Also, please mark you calendar for
Thursday, December 7th, for our Second Annual YMCA
Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. Tickets go on sale at all of our YMCA
branches on the 16th of October and will sell out
quickly. The Breakfast will be held at the Fry Family YMCA
I hope you will use and enjoy your
YMCA facilities and programs regularly this fall and winter. You
are an important part of our YMCA family.
