GREAT EVENTS AT
THE Y THIS FALL: DATES TO
REMEMBER
The new school year marks
the beginning of a great new year at the YMCA. The YMCA
Children’s Early Learning Campus is now open west of the Fry YMCA
on 95th Street and is now caring for children six weeks
old through kindergarten every weekday. This brand new,
8,000 square foot, state of the art facility combines exceptional
leadership with a values based curriculum. To arrange a tour
and receive additional information please call the YMCA at
630-420-6600.
We have talked about the
Activate America Program in previous articles. This is a
national YMCA initiative which is designed to get America up and
moving and focused on a healthier lifestyle. On Saturday,
September 23rd,, beginning at 8 AM, each YMCA branch
will sponsor a one and three mile walk which is open to the
general public. This will launch a week of special
activities and encourage participants to keep track of their steps
for the week. Each branch is planning special activities
after the walk on the 23rd. Contact the Kroehler
(630-420-6270) or Fry (630-904-9595) YMCAs for complete details.
The Annual Rotary Club
Oktoberfest celebration is scheduled for October 5th
through the 8th in downtown Naperville. This
year, in addition to providing a children’s activity program on
Sunday, which is Family Day, the YMCA is organizing a Battle of
the Bands on Thursday from 6 to 10 PM. The event is open to
all high school students and will feature top bands from all
Naperville high schools. The admission is $5.00.
This is a great new dimension to the Annual Oktoberfest event.
Please plan to join us.
And finally, mark the 8th
of December down on the calendar for the Second Annual Mayor’s
Prayer Breakfast to be held at the Fry Family YMCA. Again
this year Kristy Glass, a former Neuqua student, will return from
New York to provide songs of the season. Our featured
speaker will be Eboo Patel. Eboo is founder and executive
director of the Interfaith Youth Core, an international
organization based in Chicago. Dr. Patel has appeared on TV
and radio across America, is an author and recently presented a
keynote speech at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum. Tickets will
go on sale the 16th of October and will sell out
quickly.
Please plan to join the more
than 22,000 Heritage YMCA members this fall and use and enjoy our
programs and facilities on a regular basis. And always
remember, no young person will ever be denied YMCA membership or
programs because of an inability to pay the cost of participation.
This is our promise to the community. Our Strong Kids
Program Annual Campaign raises funds year round to make certain no
child is ever left behind at the YMCA.
