Heritage YMCA Group Welcomes Newly Elected Board Members

(Naperville,IL)...The Heritage YMCA, an Activate America YMCA, is a volunteer founded and volunteer led non-profit organization serving Aurora, Naperville and Oswego communities. It depends on the generosity and dedication of volunteers as they are front and center of YMCA operations, they contribute significant time, talents and treasures and partner with staff to ensure that our YMCA branches are mission driven; "To enhance the quality of life for families through programs reflecting Christian principles to build healthy spirit, mind and body for all."

Corporate Board and Branch Board members with the YMCA are volunteer positions. The following volunteers have been newly elected to the Heritage YMCA Corporate Board; Brooke N. Cook, Tom Carroll, Joe Dunn, Loretta Karkhoff, Mike Krol, Raymond J. McGury, Jane P. Wernette, Luis A. Richard, and Ben Kirchhoff. Each of them brings a personal dedication to ensure that the YMCA continues to serve children and families through the programs and services it offers.

Brooke Cook is an Architechtural Manager for PPG Industries, Inc. She is involved in the Naperville Area Chamber YPN, Construction Specifiers Institute (CSI), United States Green Build Council (USGBC) and previously worked with the Naperville Heritage Society as a Punch Club Committee Member. Brooke is married to John and graduated from Ohio University.

Tom Carroll is Executive Vice-President--Chief Human Resource Officer at R.R. Donnelley. He is married to Kay and has three children. Tom graduated from Illinois State University with an M.S. in Clinical Psychology and a B.S. in Psychology. His certifications include: Employee Relations Law, Total Quality Management, Principle-Centered Leadership and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Tom is a member of the Heritage YMCA Group.

Joe Dunn is a CPA and managing director of a private equity investment fund. For six years he has served as a member of the Illinois General Assemble and is currently filling a vacated seat on the Naperville City Council. Joe has three children.

Loretta Karkhoff is employed by First Community Bank where she is the Vice-President/ Branch Manager. Loretta is very involved in the community; from 1995-1999 Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Chairmen of the Board in 1998, from 1997-2003 Trustee, Naperville Education Foundation, Naperville United Way Board member 1998-2002 and Rotary Club of Naperville 2004-2006. Loretta has been married to Tom for nearly forty years and they have two grown children and two granddaughters. Loretta graduated from the University of Maryland with a concentration in Business Administration.

Mike Krol held various positions in Construction, Engineering, Corporate Budgets, Network Operations, Long Range Planning and Marketing. His last position was Vice President of Payphone Business Unit for Ameritech Regional. In December of 1999 Mike retired from AT&T. His community involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors for the following: Illinois-Michigan Heritage Canal Association, Naperville Chamber of Commerce, Naperville Heritage Society, Little Friends and Naperville Country Club. Mike is married to Maureen and they have three grown children and two grandchildren. Mike attended Northwestern Kellogg School of Business for Executive Development, as well as University of Michigan for Finance.

Ray McGury is Executive Director of the Naperville Park District. Ray has been active in the Illinois Special Olympics, the St. Baldrick's Cure for Pediatric Cancer, Naperville Ribfest, volunteer coach for Naperville and Bolingbrook Park Districts as well as for the YMCA. Additionally, he serves as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University and Lewis University and as an instructor for the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy and Department of Homeland Security. Ray has a B.A. in Criminal Justice from St. Xavier University; Masters of Public Administration from Northern Illinois University; graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and the Rocky Mountain Executive Management Program. Ray has a wife, Sue, and three boys.

Jane Wernette attended Michigan State University where she earned her B.A. and M.A. in Advertising. Jane has previously worked as Marketing Director for Kids Matter and spent many years at Leo Burnett, as Vice President, Account Director. Jane's community involvement includes; Parent University Co-Chair Planning Committee, Huntington Estates Tennis Program Coordinator and is on School Family Community Partnership teams at Kennedy Jr. High and Naperville North High School. She is married to Wes and has three daughters.

Luis Richard is employed by Central Dupage Hospital where he is Supply Chain Manager. Luis has been the Lakewood Valley Homeowners Association President for four years. He has also been a YMCA coach, Wheatland Baseball coach and Oswego Baseball coach. Luis is also involved with the CDH Foundation Events Committee and the Association for Healthcare Resource and Materials Management (AHRMM). Luis is married to Traci and has three children. Luis attended Benedictine University.

Ben Kirchhoff is Bank Manager, V.P. for Harris N.A. He is involved with Junior Achievement, Young Professionals of Naperville (YPN), Alden Community Board and Serenity House. Ben attended Waubonsee Community College and School of the Art Institute where he received his Associates in Science and Associates in Arts. Ben has a wife, Christine, and two children.

The Heritage YMCA welcomes these outstanding individuals to the corporate board. The professional, personal, and community outreach experiences these individuals bring to the YMCA will further enrich our strategic planning work as we continue to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.
