HERITAGE YMCA
GROUP RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE FOX RIVER
VALLEY
The Heritage YMCA Group with
branches in Aurora, Naperville and Oswego has been awarded a $5000 grant
from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley to support the
equipping of the new Teen Lounge in the expanded YMCA facility in
Oswego. The YMCA now occupies over 22,000 square feet of space in the
old Traughber Jr. High School located at 160 E. Washington Street in
Oswego, which has been renamed the Oswego 308 Center and is now home
base for a number of local community organizations including the Oswego
Senior Center.
The Teen Center in the YMCA
will include a Teen Lounge and a Teen Game Room. The grant from the
Community Foundation will provide program opportunities which currently
do not exist for young people in Oswego.
The new YMCA facility
includes a double court gym with spectator space for over 300
individuals, an aerobic space with a specially cushioned wood floor, a
greatly expanded cardio studio with new equipment, a large free weight
room, multi-purpose area, child supervised play area, five rooms
dedicated to arts programming and outdoor athletic fields for sports
programming. Brent Finlay, Oswego Family YMCA Executive Director,
indicated that the community interest in the new building areas has been
very promising. “Our new YMCA facility is ideally located in Oswego to
serve kids and families conveniently. Our unique partnership with the
school district will allow us to double, if not triple, our membership
by the end of this year,” Finlay concluded.
The new YMCA is now open for
use. The community is invited to visit the Oswego Family YMCA and tour
the new facility. The formal grand opening ceremonies and activities are
scheduled for Saturday, September 19th from 10am to 4pm. The ribbon
cutting is scheduled at 10am. Activities that day will include
inflatables, sports demonstrations, drawings for free memberships and
programs, light refreshments. tours of the facilities, and more.
