Programs and Services at the YMCA

Active Older Adults

Today's seniors are more health conscious than ever before. At the YMCA we've made the health and fitness of our seniors a priority by providing programs for the spirit, mind and body. Through group exercise classes and aquatic programs that concentrate on mobility and flexibility, dance programs, educational programs, social events, and volunteer activities, the YMCA is bringing Active Older Adults together for camaraderie, fellowship and fun!

The SilverSneakersĀ® class offers multi-level equipment based strength and conditioning exercises. Class is easy on your joints and appropriate for individuals who exercise regularly as well as those new to exercise or who may not have exercised in years. The exercises are designed to improve your strength, flexibility and the ability to perform functional activities such as getting out of your car or lifting your grandchildren! It is never too late to start exercising. You can do this! Look at the Group Exercise section for full class descriptions.

YMCA Arts

Now more than ever YMCAs appreciate the power of art, especially on childhood development, and seek to engage members by offering art classes for youth, teens and adults in a multitude of mediums. From pottery classes to piano and guitar lessons to dance classes for youth and for adults, art at the YMCA will build a healthy spirit, mind and body.

Check on-line or our brochure for the wide variety of programs available for the entire family.

Aquatics

"America learns to swim at the YMCA".

From parent-child infant toddler classes to aqua aerobics to arthritis aquatic programs, every age is the right age to swim at the YMCA. The YMCA is your number one aquatics resource, providing youth and adults the opportunity for swim lessons, water exercise programs for all skill levels many free to members), SCUBA lessons and certification, swim teams, lifeguard training, CPR and more! The YMCA is here to meet your recreational and instructional needs in aquatics.

Family Programs

The primary goals of family time are to strengthen, support and preserve families. Time periods in our facilities will be reserved and scheduled for family activities. Our objectives with these activities are to help families:

  • Grow personally, both in self-esteem and self- reliance

  • Clarify values

  • Improve personal and family relationships

  • Appreciate diversity

  • Develop new skills and competencies

  • Become better leaders

  • Have fun and enjoy life’s relationships

Guides/Princesses/Trailblazers Programs are designed for dads to spend quality time with their daughters and sons.

Family Gym Time, Family Swim, Family Friday's, Parent's Night Out-- all are programs available for members at the Heritage YMCA Group.

Health & Fitness

Whether you're a beginner or a fitness guru, our trained and specialized fitness staff is here to make your health and fitness goals our top priority. We believe exercise and health education are important for people of all ages, incomes and abilities.

Check out the links under "Resources" for more information on the many things your YMCA has to offer.

Preschool Programs

In addition to Educational Preschool programs, the Y offers a wide variety of programs for the preschool aged child.  These programs promote the positive, healthy development of young people through activities and experiences that address the developmental assets that all children  need to obtain social, emotional, physical and cognitive competencies.  The YMCA is here to provide an environment where your child can feel safe, build trusting relationships, and have fun!

The picture on the left is just one example of a program that preschoolers LOVE!  Browse programs on-line, check out our brochure or call the nearest branch to get your child involved.
